Discontinued IKEA fronts: FAKTUM and METOD series and their replacements

IKEA changes its range of fronts regularly: the FAKTUM system disappeared completely in 2014, and in METOD further series are withdrawn every few years. The cabinets stay in the kitchen for decades, so a made-to-measure front with holes for the existing hinges is the only way to refresh such a kitchen. Below are the series customers ask about most often, and our equivalents.

How to order a replacement for a discontinued front

  1. Check which system you have: FAKTUM or METOD (year of purchase, holes in the cabinet, door height).
  2. Find your series in the table and choose our style with a similar character: framed, flat, veneered.
  3. Measure the existing fronts (width and height in mm) or give us the dimensions from the IKEA planner.
  4. Enter the dimensions in the configurator, choose the colour and finish; the price is calculated instantly. If in doubt, order a sample for €23.

We do not copy IKEA designs; we make our own fronts in our styles and in the dimensions of your system. Full descriptions of the FAKTUM equivalents with prices are in the model table in the FAKTUM collection.

METOD: discontinued series

IKEA regularly withdraws METOD front series, among them HITTARP, GRIMSLÖV, LAXARBY, JÄRSTA, HERRESTAD, BROKHULT, EDSERUM, HAGGEBY, MÄRSTA, GRYTNÄS, EKESTAD and RINGHULT. METOD dimensions have not changed since 2014, so a made-to-measure front replaces any of them without touching the cabinet.

Does IKEA still sell FAKTUM fronts?

No, not since 2014. Single pieces appear on second-hand furniture sites, but in a different shade and condition. A made-to-measure front in FAKTUM dimensions solves the problem for good.

Does a new IKEA series fit a cabinet with a discontinued METOD series?

In terms of size yes, because METOD has not changed its dimensions since 2014. The problem is colour and design: a new series rarely matches the old fronts, so when adding a single cabinet it is better to order a front in a colour matched to the existing ones.

How do I match the colour to old fronts?

Send us a photo in daylight or order a sample in the colour from the RAL, NCS or Farrow & Ball palettes that you find closest. White IKEA fronts are usually NCS S 0300-N (cool white) or S 0502-Y (warm white).

Do you make fronts for discontinued FAKTUM drawers and pull-outs?

Yes. Drawer fronts (13, 25 and 38 cm high), pull-out fronts, dishwasher fronts and side panels are made in FAKTUM dimensions; drawers of the RATIONELL system get made-to-measure fronts with mounting holes.

How much does a replacement 60×70 cm door for FAKTUM cost?

The same as a 60×80 door: €89 in the Gładki style, €116 in the framed styles (Shaker, Hampton), €173 in oak veneer. The area of both formats is rounded up to 0.5 m².

Can I see a project with replaced FAKTUM fronts?

Photos of FAKTUM kitchens after the front replacement are on the Projects page and in the FAKTUM collection; if you want to see a specific style, write to us and we will send photos from production.
